Today I went with Linda and her brother to see Charlie. It was lovely. Johnny Depp never fails at any role. That said, the whole concept still freaks me out. The Gene Wilder one creeped me out hardcore back in Chenex.
My HBP reactions
Whew. Anyway, I loved it. I thought it exceeded OotP like, many many a fold. Here's what I wrote on the forums, to get me started:
I don't think JKR would work us all up to "we can trust snape" to have him be wrong the whole time. Despite the explanations in Chapter two, fact of the matter is a lot of his actions over the past six years are inexplicable if he was not with the order. Why not let Quirrell kill Harry in the Quidditch match first year? Why not kill Harry when he was bouncing off curses after killing Dumbledore? He says Voldemort wanted Harry for himself, but I can't think Voldie would be all that disappointed to hear that his biggest threat was offed.
Personally, I think that Snape will be with Voldemort all of book 7 until the final matchup, in which he will do something crazy to help Harry.
That said, I miss Dumbledore already.
I hope that even though Harry says he will not return to Hogwarts that we still get lots from the rest of the order. Because I love Remus especially, and the Weasleys and McGoogles... I'm thinking it'll be like two towers/return of the king in that we've got two story lines. But there are two Sams.
In Addition:
I really liked getting the Tom Riddle backstory. My favorite bit was the bit about the DADA job. That amused me muchly. The Horcruxes is an interesting development, and a good explanation for all that not dying. I think the fact that Tom was a psychopath from way back is interesting. Eleven year old Tom was just CREEPY man.
Look, I don't like Remus "my str8 is pastede on yay" more than anyone else, but I'm not going to let one vehement denial and one ambiguous line of text ruin a whole book, or god forbid, a whole series for me. For one thing, that scene at christmas with the love song and the wistful looking - pretty much as close to canon as we are going to get. You know how people are. At least JKR didn't make them cousins. Besides, Sirius is dead. People get new relationships. He doesn't have a canon relationship while Sirius is alive, just think of it that way. Besides, Tonks is pretty much as close as you can get to Sirius without being the now slightly more ambigiousR.A.B. Regulus.
Poor Snape though. Going around being all, "Oooo, I am the half blood prince, look at me, I'm smarter than all y'all." No one ever called himself that except him. Because he had no friends. And pretty much hates everyone.
Yeah, I cried. I'll admit it.
ETA: BTW, Draco's joining a monestary. In Tibet. It's happening.

Date: 2005-07-19 02:14 pm (UTC)I personally don't 'ship Remus/Sirius, but you can always just pretend/assume that Remus is bi. That's what I'd do, at least. Especially since that Remus/Tonks thing came out of NOWHERE. Ugh.

LOL. That's an amusing thought. Is he going to meet up with Oz there? Or Angel? :)

Date: 2005-07-21 10:44 am (UTC)I didn't cry cuz my brain's desires to continue to see the pages won out over me wanting to cry. But I got all teary and bummed like WHOA. That and I really suspected the death to be a fake out where Dumbledore gets up and like Ginny dies instead while Harry left to chase Snape.
I second the flashback love. Even if it felt laid on a little too think for like an eleven year old considering that many of the readers will be below fourteen.
